ABOUT DAVID COTTRELL
David lives and works in the area of Penzance, Cornwall. He has a BA in Fine Art from Falmouth School of Art (1978) and he was awarded the degree show’s ‘Painting Prize’ in that year. He also has a Master of Fine Art degree (MFA) from Newcastle University (1991) and a PGCE from East Sussex (Brighton) University. David is a member of The Newlyn Society of Artists (NSA), an ‘Associate’ of The Penwith Society of Artists and a Member of ‘Penzance Studios.
David was an art educator in various establishments for many years in upper schools, university and foundation colleges. Along side this, he maintained his career as a painter. Since returning from
teaching in the UAE in 2009, David’s time has been wholly devoted to this.
David has a number of paintings in notable public collections including The Hatton Gallery, Newcastle (see the ‘Art UK’ website/formerly ‘The Nations Pictures’ / and search David Cottrell), and the UK Universities Funding Council and Bedfordshire Education Authority. He has been a ‘Reginal Prize winner’ with the Discerning Eye competitions.
Since returning to Cornwall in 2015/16, David has continued to exhibit regularly and has an extensive exhibitions list. He is well known in the area.
